Why we recommend it

The academy is the setting and the darkness is structural — dhampir guardians, Moroi royalty, and the strigoi that the whole system was built to prevent. Mead writes the dark paranormal as a boarding school novel and gets away with it: the school is real, the politics are vicious, and the love that forms inside the institution's walls is forbidden for reasons that actually make sense.
