McIntire's Never After series continues with the scarred Beauty and the Beast retelling — the scarred is both the physical and the emotional condition of the hero. The romance is about what the scars mean in a dark fairy tale where the beauty is not required to be afraid of the right things and the beast is honest about what he is.
