The hunted is the heroine and the hunter is the alien who has decided she's his quarry in ways that operate by his biology and her options. Anderson writes the sci-fi alien romance with the hunt as the mating instinct — the Kindred male hunts because that's what his genetics require, and being hunted by him specifically is both terrifying and something else.
