Why we recommend it

The saint is bad — James writes the captive romance with the religious vocabulary inverted. The bad saint has the title of the virtuous but the behavior of the opposite, and the captive romance is about what the heroine does when she discovers that the saint she was trusting is bad in the specific way the genre promises.
